I. love. birthdays.
I love them so much, you guys.
I love everything they symbolize, I love spending time with my family & friends, and (of course!) I love the cake. 😉 but more than that, I love getting to use my birthday as a time to really set aside for the refreshment of my soul & a celebration of all the heart work that has taken place in me. because, friends, no matter how hard or frustrating or exhausting this year of your life has been… that is so worth celebrating.
I like to take the time to reflect on the year, release any burdens, and refresh my spirit going into the next year of my life.
so, here are a few of my own personal birthday traditions that I do every year, or have decided to do from here on out, and I think you might want to start them, too!

Perhaps you’ve seen those beautiful photos on pinterest? the flowing colors and graceful swirls of text painted in the wide margins of journaling Bibles? perhaps you’ve wished you could imitate them or connect with God in a way like that. perhaps you’ve always thought “I could never do that… where would I even start… I’m not that creative…”.
I promise you that anyone with any amount of artistic experience (even if it’s 0%) can do this. it might not look as flashy or as perfect or as “pinterest-worthy” as those images you’ve been constantly pinning on, well, pinterest… but it can lead to an amazing way to connect with the Lord that maybe you’ve never tried (or even thought about) before.
so, why is this even a thing?
why would you want to journal in your Bible?
here are a few good reasons:
1.) your quiet time needs a new routine.
it happens to the best of us! whether it’s romantic relationships, your workout regimen, or, yes, your time with Jesus, sometimes you just need to shake things up. we’re creatures of habit who can often fall into the rut of same-old, same-old and need a fresh perspective in order to approach what it is we’re doing with a new-found passion or love. Bible journaling is a really awesome way to do that in your quiet time! Continue reading “How to Start Bible Journaling (for the Total Beginner)”
I thought we should chat today about some things that are up and coming, not just in my life, but also in the life of this little blog! 🙂
so let’s grab a cup of coffee & have a seat, shall we?
as many of you know, I’ve just begun my training to become a certified yoga instructor with holy yoga ministries. Continue reading “of yoga, starbucks, and big life decisions: your questions accepted”
Hi sweet readers!!
And a very crappy, er, um, happy Monday! 😉
Last Monday we had a chat about how being healthy and feeling good makes a world of difference in how your week goes, and a simple way to improve your health is to drink more water. how did you do with your water intake last week?! (Check out last Monday’s post here). I’m doing far better than I was before, even if I’m not hitting the 9-cup mark every day.
This week I thought it might be nice to take a quick break from physical health and focus on emotional health 🙂
An easy and fun way to keep up with the flow of thoughts and feelings in your brain is to JOURNAL. Some people are scared of that word. (I hope you’re not one of them!!) but even if you are, I am determined to teach you to love it! 🙂
Often, the reason people are scared of journaling is because they’re picturing pages and pages of well-worded intimate thoughts in perfect, Jane-Austin-esque handwriting. If that’s your thing, go you! If not, don’t worry! You can journal your own unique way!
In fact, lucky for you, I’ve come up with a five-step process to help you learn how to do just that! You’re welcome. 😉 Continue reading “Monday Pep Talk // how to journal like a pro, in 5 easy steps”
