ahh, September… that in-between time when sweaters are too hot and tanks leave you shivering. 😉
is it just me, or does everyone else struggle to look half-decent when the entire contents of both your summer and autumn clothes are strewn about, and you’re digging through half-folded sweaters for something comfy but not smothering? yeah, sounds familiar right?
well, today I thought I’d share my 3 clothing items that I wouldn’t survive the in-between weather without!
you’re welcome 😉
all of these pieces are small-budget-friendly and oh-so-simple to style. plus, they go with just about everything. if you met me on the street, I’d probably be wearing one, if not all three of these early-fall favorites!
1 // the open-front cardigan
you can find me pulling these on pretty much all year round. but as summer gives way to autumn, it seems the perfect season to add a little cozy, without totally committing to a heavy sweater. slip it on when the breeze gets chilly, then off again when the midday sun is a wee bit too warm. I’m seriously a hoarder when it comes to these things (I have about five of them in different colors and weights), but for good reason: I get almost constant use out of each and every one of them, and the compliments are outta this world, too. 😉
2 // the button-up
classic. chic. endlessly versatile. whether it’s a plaid or a chambray (or just about anything in between), your favorite button-up is sure to become your #1 bestie in your summer-to-fall transition wardrobe. with sleeves rolled up or down, worn with a chunky necklace or left un-buttoned with a tee underneath, paired with denim, maxi skirts, or a pair of office-appropriate crops… the classic button-up truly does it all. add a scarf on the chillier evenings for even more autumn-y-ness. (of course that’s a thing)
3 // the perfect pair of booties
what’s the shoe that keep your toes out of the chilly breeze, but away from the “does she think we’re expecting a snow storm?” comments? ankle booties. I have two pairs (these flat burgundy ones shown below, and a low-heeled nude pair) and wear them both almost all. the. time. you can rock ’em with everything from skirts and tights, to skinny denim, to leggings, to high-waisted shorts. you honestly can’t go wrong with them style-wise, and they’re just so comfy. plus, you can dress them up or down, so you’ll always have an easy go-to shoe.
so there you have it! my top 3 must-haves for any summer-to-fall transition wardrobe.
the best thing about these is that they all come straight out of my closet- aka are all pieces a mostly-broke young pregnant wife can both wear and afford 😉 they’re easy to wear (I’m no fashion expert!) and are super basic items that anyone with any body type can pull off!
so tell me- what are YOU fave transition pieces? 🙂
